Geography

Vinnytsia has the status of a city of region significance, and also serves as a district center of the Vinnytsia district which rests in the historic region of Podillia. The region is located in the forest-steppe belt of the right-bank part of Ukraine. The region borders on 7 regions of Ukraine (Zhytomyr, Chernivtsi, Khmelnytskyi, Kyiv, Cherkasy, Kirovograd, Odesa regions) It also contains 202 km of the state border with the Republic of Moldova. 204 rivers flow through the region, the largest are the Southern Buh and the Dniester. Vinnytsia city is located
in the central part of Ukraine, on the banks of the Sou-
thern Buh River. It occupies the area of 11,3 thousand
hectares. The city was founded in the second half of the
XIV century. Vinnytsia has an advantageous geographical
location and transport links connecting the geographical
triangle Lviv-Kyiv-Odessa. Vinnytsia is located about
260 km from the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, 429 km from the
port city Odessa, and 369 km from Lviv. The current
estimated population of the city is 372,000 inhabitants.

Climate

A long-lasting warm summer with a sufficient quantity of moisture and a comparatively short winter is characteristic of Vinnytsia. The average temperature in January is −5.8 °C and 18.3°C in July. The average annual precipitation is 638 mm. Throughout the year, 6–9 days per year includes snowstorms, 37–60 days of the year include mists during the cold period, and 3–5 days include thunderstorms with hail.
