A little over one hundred years ago, the Directory and the Government of the Ukrainian People Republic moved from Kyiv to Vinnytsia, making it the last capital of the young state. Vinnytsia remained the capital for about a month: from February 2 to March 6, 1919. The offices of the leaders were located in the hotel Savoy.

On June 16, 2015 the Ambassador of Switzerland in Ukraine Christian Schoenenberger presented the Mayor of Vinnytsia Serhiy Morgunov with the European energy award. Vinnytsia became the first city not only in Ukraine, but also the first among cities of the former Soviet Union, which has been certified under this European system. Assigning this distinction means that Vinnytsia established quality management system in energy saving and began to improve the energy efficiency of the regional centre.

Collective picture-painting, the biggest collection of transport models, salsa in vyshyvankas, the biggest coat of arms “made from people”, the smallest origami,  the biggest korovai (loaf of bread), the biggest picture made from seeds, the longest pancake, the children chess tournament, that included the biggest number of participants and many many other outstanding things… All these events happened in Vinnytsia.

Big and small, old and new, floating and pedestrian – there are more than 20 of them in Vinnytsia. The star of this collection is the Multimedia Roshen Fountain, the biggest in Europe.

They are funny and eccentric, magnificent and simple… Recently a lot of such constructions have appeared in the city centre. Some of them have become real tourist attractions. You can see “The Poet” and “The Violin player”, “The Musician” and “The Artist”, the ones of Hryhoriy Artynov and Symon Petliura and many others.

Vinnytsia was the first Ukrainian city that invited foreign experts to develop the city cycling strategy. The result of this cooperation is over 50 km of bike paths.

Vinnytsia produces its own trams, the design of which was worked out in Kyiv in one of the salons that specializes on tuning premium class cars, such as Bentley and Ferrari.

Vinnytsia has been declared the most comfortable place for living for 5 years in a row. Vinnystia headed the rating organized by the “Rating” social group, according to the results of IRI – the International Republican Institute research.

Vinnytsia stands on the river called Pivdennyi Buh, which old Slavic people called “Boh”. Boh means God in both Slavic and Ukrainian languages. By giving such a name to the river our ancestors wanted to emphasize the richness and the fertility of the land where this river flows.

The spire of Vinnytsia TV tower is 354 metres high. It is the highest construction of this kind in the world.
