Seven Wonders of Vinnytsia Region

Vinnytsia region attracts tourists with its forests, lakes and numerous interesting places and routes. Here you can find out something about Trypillia culture, Scythian armaments and hear the legend about sarmatian gold. Our region is a unique combination of architecture, history and nature.
Here is the list of “Seven wonders of Vinnytchyna” which includes the most outstanding places of the region.
Historical buildings in Brailiv
Brailiv is considered to be one of the oldest settlements of Podillia. Here you can find Saint-Trinity convent constructed in the 18th century and the palace of von Mekk’s family built in the 19th century. The tallest building of the town is Saint Trinity church, built in 1879.
Historical-cultural complex Busha and Haidamak Ravine
Busha reserve was founded by local authorities in 2000. It comprises around ten archeological monuments dated 4th century BC – 7th century AD. Among them there is a temple in the rock, remnants of a fortress, an ancient cemetery and underground catacombs.
Next to the river Bushanka there is the Haidamak Ravine named after historical events called Koliivshchyna. The ravine has a unique landscape. There are giant boulders shaped in quaint forms that remind you of some mythical creatures.
Historical-cultural centre of spirituality and harmony
Settlement of the town of Sharhorod is associated with the name of polish philanthropist J. Zamoiskyi who supported Stephan Batorii in his claim to the throne. It was Batorii who ordered to build a fortress. The fortress was called “Sharhorod”. Later the church of saint Florian was built there, too.
National museum-estate of M. Pyrohov
Mykola Pyrohov is a world-known scientist, doctor and teacher. As he lived and worked in Vinnytsia for twenty-five years, there is his house, which was made a museum in 1947. There also is a pharmacy with a restored interior and an operating room, as well as the necropolis with the embalmed body of the scientist.
Nemyriv settlement
There are shafts and moats along the Southern Buh River that mesmerize with their silent mysteriousness. They appeared in the 7th century BC and served as a defence from enemies. One of the most outstanding places in a 100-hectare Nemyriv Scythian settlement. Some of the shafts here reach 9 meters high. The first tribes came here in the 3rd century BC. There archeologists discovered dugouts, earthenware, bronze, iron and Scythian burials.
Pototskyi Palace
The Pototskyi Palace is a fascinating landmark of classicism. It is located in Tulchyn and it was built in 1782 by the French architect Lacroix. The ensemble consists of a palace, a theater, an arena, a stable, a bath, a greenhouse, office and living quarters and two side wings. The legend says there was an underground tunnel that led to another smaller palace. It was so big that four horses could easily ride in it.
Liadova rock monastery
In the village of Liadova, there is one of the oldest rock monasteries, founded in the XI century. It is carved in a rock above the Dniester River. The Orthodox monastery consists of three cave temples: the temple of Ioann the Baptist, the temple of Saint Paraskeva Piatnytsia and the temple of Saint Anthony Pechersky. There is the legend which says that Anthony Pechersky stayed there on his way from Athos to Kyiv.
